Joe Kelly from Cheltenham played the game for 35 hours 35 minutes and 35 second, raising PS1,800 to support cancer research. Martin Fornleitner, Austria, set the current record of 24 hours and 10 minutes in 2011. Minecraft involves building structures out of blocks, exploring worlds and taking part in battles. The title has been downloaded more than 54 millions times around the globe. Microsoft purchased Mojang, the studio behind it for $2.5bn (PS1.5bn) last year. Mr Kelly, who runs a film company and works as a voice actor, has been playing the game since buying a pre-development version in 2010 but usually only plays for a couple of hours a week. Staying awake was not too difficult - I did it all without any caffeine, he said to the BBC. There were no stimulants except for sugar and stubbornness. Kelly, who streamed it all live on YouTube and said that it had taken its toll on him. My shoulders and back didn't ache. But my fingers were the worst.
